As the Internet explosion raged through the world, innovations in tele-health meant the doctor no longer had to be in the same room or same state as the patient. He could read a CT scan from his home or from another state in the middle of the night, he could perform tele-laproscopic surgery with the patient in another hospital and he could opine on an electrocardiogram and suggest treatment for a heart attack via a telemedicine link. In essence birth of the ‘virtual’ doctor coincided with growth of the internet.
